Recent Research on the Impact of the NEWSTART Program on Pain and the Kidneys
Recent research on the NEWSTART program conducted this year by two senior students of Weimar University, Ellen Marie Hartman and Joaquin Ramirez, shows NEWSTART’s impact on the improvement of patients’ kidney function and reduction of overall pain.
Hartman’s research was conducted on the data of 464 patients who had attended the NEWSTART program over a span of 13 years. Her research focused on determining whether patients’ kidney function improved after their 18-day NEWSTART experience. Several markers of kidney function were measured before and after participation in NEWSTART. A few of the markers considered in the data were blood pressure, weight, creatinine, and blood sugar. Upon completion of her analysis of the data, Hartman found that the data collected over thirteen years suggested that the 18-day NEWSTART Program is correlated with improved kidney function.
She suggested that this may be a result of the NEWSTART Program reversing diabetes and hypertension in patients, since diabetes and hypertension often lead to chronic kidney disease. Hartman’s research supports past research that suggests the NEWSTART Program has significant positive effects on many areas of health including kidney health.
In addition to Hartman’s research on kidney health, Joaquin Ramirez’s new research on NEWSTART’s improvement of pain sheds light on another way the NEWSTART program can impact patients’ lives. “One of the biggest epidemics in our world today is chronic pain.” Ramirez explained, highlighting his motivation for conducting research in this field. Ramirez’s data collection procedure included administering a pain questionnaire to participants before and after they completed the NEWSTART lifestyle program. Patients self-reported answers to questions regarding the type, intensity, and location(s) of the pain they were experiencing. In addition, they were asked to report how much their pain interfered with their function. After collecting and analyzing the data, Ramirez concluded that participants who completed the NEWSTART program had a reduction in pain, fewer body areas experiencing pain, and a lower impact of pain on their daily function. Ramirez also reported that his findings support the current body of research and confirm the impact that the NEWSTART program has on reducing pain and improving overall function and quality of life.
How does the NEWSTART lifestyle and residential program improve kidney function?
The NEWSTART program improves kidney function through its comprehensive lifestyle approach, which addresses several key factors that impact kidney health:
- Weight management: The program helps patients lose excess weight, which can reduce strain on the kidneys and improve overall kidney function.
- Blood pressure control: The NEWSTART lifestyle is proven to lower blood pressure, a critical factor in preserving kidney health and preventing further damage.
- Blood sugar regulation: By helping to reverse or better manage diabetes, NEWSTART addresses one of the leading causes of chronic kidney disease.
- Hydration: NEWSTART emphasizes proper hydration through its “Water” component, which is essential for kidney function.
- Lifestyle modifications: NEWSTART incorporates various lifestyle changes that can positively impact kidney health, such as dietary improvements, stress reduction, and increased physical activity.
- Hydrotherapy: The NEWSTART residential program includes hydrotherapy treatments, which may help improve circulation and reduce inflammation, potentially benefiting kidney function
The Role of Hydrotherapy in Kidney Health: NEWSTART’s Water-Based Wellness Approach

Hydrotherapy, a cornerstone of the NEWSTART program, plays a significant role in promoting kidney health through various mechanisms. This water-based therapy contributes to overall wellness and specifically supports kidney function in several ways:
- Improved Circulation: By utilizing water in different forms (liquid, ice, and steam), hydrotherapy enhances blood circulation throughout the body. This improved blood flow extends to the kidneys, potentially boosting their function and efficiency.
- Pain Management: While not directly linked to kidney health, hydrotherapy’s pain-reducing effects through alternating heat and cold applications contribute to overall well-being. By alleviating pain, it may reduce stress on the body, indirectly benefiting kidney function.
- Detoxification Support: NEWSTART emphasizes the detoxifying properties of proper hydration and water use. This aligns well with the kidneys’ primary role of filtering waste from the blood, potentially enhancing their natural detoxification processes.
- Stress Reduction: Hydrotherapy treatments such as contrast showers are known for their stress-reducing effects. Lower stress levels can indirectly benefit kidney health by reducing overall physiological strain on the body’s systems, including the renal system.
- Holistic Health Approach: Hydrotherapy in NEWSTART doesn’t work in isolation. It complements other program principles like nutrition, exercise, and rest, creating a comprehensive approach to health. This holistic strategy may collectively contribute to improved kidney function as part of overall health enhancement.
NEWSTART: A Sustainable Solution for Kidney Health, Pain Reduction, and Overall Wellness
The NEWSTART lifestyle program offers a sustainable and holistic approach to improving kidney function, decreasing pain, and enhancing overall health. Unlike conventional treatments that often rely on medications with potential harmful side effects, NEWSTART focuses on eight fundamental principles that are natural, accessible, and free for everyone and incur little, if any, financial burden. In fact, adopting the NEWSTART lifestyle has the potential to save money in the long run on health insurance, medications, doctor’s visits, and other costs and time incurred by failing health.
Another aspect that makes NEWSTART a sustainable health solution is the community and support offered through the residential program and online platforms.
